چکیده
Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the fracture toughness epoxy-based graphene nanocomposites. single edge notched bending (SENB) samples with precrack tips were created by either tapping or sliding methods. For method, a tap conducted on razor blade such crack length 2 mm instantly propagated. slid forward and backward into samples, generated edge. SENB loadings (0.15 0.3 wt%) subjected three-point tests evaluate toughness. Results indicated that loading did not considerably affect tapping-induced tips. However, sliding-induced decreased as increased. wt% nanocomposites, levels sliding- equal. In order explicate experimental results, plastic zone sizes around tip evaluated using finite element analysis. sharp (tapping method), comparatively small (brittle behavior); hence, effect inception extension minimal. Nevertheless, for blunt (sliding larger size increased; thus, behavior measured from method dramatically influenced loading.

an epoxy resin was modified by silica nanoparticles and cured with an anhydride. the particles with different batches of 12, 20, and 40 nm sizes were each distributed into the epoxy resin ultrasonically. electron microscopy images showed that the silica particles were well dispersed throughout the resin. tensile test results showed that young’s modulus and tensile strength increased with the vo...
متن کاملFracture toughness of graphene.
Perfect graphene is believed to be the strongest material. However, the useful strength of large-area graphene with engineering relevance is usually determined by its fracture toughness, rather than the intrinsic strength that governs a uniform breaking of atomic bonds in perfect graphene. To date, the fracture toughness of graphene has not been measured. Here we report an in situ tensile testi...

Influence of topographical features on mechanical properties of 0.1 wt % Multi-Layer Graphene (MLG)/clay-epoxy nanocomposites has been studied. Three different compositions were made: (1) 0.1 wt % MLG-EP; (2) 0.1 wt % clay-EP and (3) 0.05 wt % MLG-0.05 wt % clay-EP. The objective of making hybrid nanocomposites was to determine whether synergistic effects are prominent at low weight fraction of...
متن کاملDetermining Fracture Toughness of Bone with Double Notched Beams in Four-Point Bending
Studies of bone have determined multiple toughening mechanisms slowing the propagation of a crack. These toughening mechanisms contribute to the fracture toughness of bone in life, making their activities of clinical interest. The primary standard methods for measuring bone fracture toughness use a single-notched compact type specimen (CT) or single-notched bending specimens in four-point (SN4P...
متن کاملImprovement of Fracture Toughness in Epoxy Nanocomposites through Chemical Hybridization of Carbon Nanotubes and Alumina
The current study investigated the effect of adding a carbon nanotube-alumina (CNT-Al₂O₃) hybrid on the fracture toughness of epoxy nanocomposites. The CNT-Al₂O₃ hybrid was synthesised by growing CNTs on Al₂O₃ particles via the chemical vapour deposition method. The CNTs were strongly attached onto the Al₂O₃ particles, which served to transport and disperse the CNTs homogenously, and to prevent...
